An atmosphere of glamour, culture and celebration filled Shingar Banquet Hall as the 11th edition of the Remarkable Mothers Award & Gala 2026 brought together political leaders, entrepreneurs, community advocates, families and guests from across Canada to honour mothers and women making meaningful impacts in society.

The colourful Mother’s Day celebration, held under the theme “Where Love Leaves a Legacy,” recognized nearly 45 distinguished women whose contributions in leadership, business, healthcare, advocacy, media, caregiving and community development continue to shape lives and strengthen communities across Canada.
Organized by Ambassador Ngozi Ugoh, publisher of the Nigerian Canadian Newspaper Canada, the annual event has grown into one of the leading multicultural celebrations within the African-Canadian community, attracting participants from different cultural and professional backgrounds. The evening featured a blend of elegance and cultural pride, with guests enjoying red carpet moments, live entertainment, networking sessions, cultural displays, music performances and exhibitions from vendors showcasing products and services. African and continental cuisines added to the vibrant atmosphere as attendees celebrated motherhood and womanhood in grand style.

In her opening remarks, Ambassador Ugoh thanked guests, supporters and award recipients for honouring the occasion and supporting a platform dedicated to celebrating women of excellence. “Tonight is more than a gathering,” she said. “It is a celebration of sacrifice, resilience, love and the lasting legacy of mothers and women whose contributions continue to inspire generations.” She described the award recipients as women whose quiet dedication and commitment have made significant impacts within families, businesses and communities. According to her, the initiative continues to expand yearly as a multicultural platform promoting unity, inclusion and appreciation for women from all walks of life.
The event also drew commendations from political leaders and government representatives who praised the organizers for sustaining an initiative that promotes community development and women’s empowerment. Among the dignitaries present was Shafqat Ali, who applauded Ambassador Ugoh’s contributions to Canada’s multicultural and media landscape through NCNC. Smith further highlighted ongoing Ontario government investments aimed at supporting women through economic empowerment and skills development programs.
In her goodwill message, Charmaine Williams, Associate Minister of Women’s Social and Economic Opportunity, stressed the importance of creating opportunities that support women and families across the province. “When women thrive, families and communities also prosper,” she stated, while emphasizing the importance of recognizing women from diverse backgrounds for their contributions to society.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of awards to the honoured mothers and women of excellence, many of whom attended alongside family members, friends and supporters. For attendees, the gala represented more than an award ceremony. It was a celebration of identity, resilience, culture and the enduring role of mothers in shaping future generations.
